Packing for Safari
Clothing for a 10 day safari:
(find out if there are laundry facilities, rain may prevent clothes from drying)
- A good hat
- Short sleeved shirts 4
- Long sleeved shirts 2
- Short trousers 2
- Long trousers 2
- Underwear 6 sets
- Socks 6 pairs
- Swimming costume
- Lace up shoes (sometimes need to hunt in the bush for logs to free stuck vehicles)
- Waterproofs (folded as flat as possible (I carry mine in my camera bag)
- Warm jumper
- Anorak or warm jacket
Sundry items:
- Torch plus batteries (and spares)
- Sunglasses
- Wet wipes
- Tissues/ handkerchiefs
- Pocket knife - Swiss Army type or Leatherman (in main luggage)
- Tweezers for removing thorns and splinters
- Binoculars
Camera/video:
- 35mm camera with interchangeable lenses
- at least one long lens - if space is a problem, a zoom lens ranging from 80 to 400mm
- film - I use Fuji Velvia, Fuji Provia 100 F and Kodack Ectachrome 100 VS take double the amount you think you need
- filmsafe bags (lead lined) , to protect film from Airport X-Rays
- Flashgun
- Lens cleaning materials
- Tripod, monopod, beanbag
- Camera batteries, and spares
- Camera manuals
